‘Lightwaves’ is inspired by sea sparkle, a micro organism causing a mysterious glow when disturbed by movement in the surrounding water. Our installation also glows when disturbed, but rather by waves of air, displaying otherwise invisible forces around us. Right across the Hermitage, above the Herengracht, our 80sqrm free hanging canvas interacts with wind, using thousands of LEDs embroidered within the cloth. Sensors translate the movement of the wind into light, resulting in ever changing patterns of glowing light. Maritime technology is used to roll up the entire artwork in case of severe winds.

Lightwaves was on display during the winter of 2016-2017.
